DESCRIPTION:
Aquamarine is the blue gem variety of Beryl, and for a few decades, some of the finest examples have been found in the Shigar Valley of Pakistan. The best of these crystals are some of the most transparent, sharp, lustrous and well-formed examples of any variety of Beryl from any world locality.
This specimen is a great example of said material. It's a fine, classic, sharp, GEM QUALITY, highly lustrous, hexagonal prismatic crystal with a gentle blue color and minor associated Albite, free of matrix.
There are some tiny black inclusions in the Aqua, which could be Schorl, Rutile, or something more exotic. The piece has a bright basal termination, with a soft amount of etching around the edge, which gives way to the broad smooth prism faces.
The crystal is in good shape overall, and the lower portion is not broken, but shows the beginning of some hydrothermal etching patterns, creating a unique and pleasing effect. A really attractive and very good quality representative Aquamarine crystal from this prestigious specimen-producing area in the high mountains of Pakistan.
