Kunzite is the pink/purple variety of Spodumene, often found in gem quality crystals. While the material is well-known among collectors and dealers, there are only about three places in the world where good crystals are found: Brazil, San Diego County and Afghanistan. Most of the crystals you'll see on the market these days come from Afghanistan, and they are truly impressive for their size, quality, color, gemminess and crystal form.
This piece is a gorgeous, excellent, doubly-terminated, excellent, large, sharp, thick, gemmy, striated, rich pink and soft golden colored, "sword-shaped" "floater" crystal. When the crystal is viewed down the "c" axis, like nearly all Spodumene crystals, the color is stronger. The specimen is complete all the way around, with no major damage, only a tiny bit of roughness along one edge. It's quite gemmy in person, and honestly looks better than the photos might indicate.
Kunzite is a type of spodumene mineral that is valued for its delicate pink to violet colors. The doubly-terminated Kunzite from Afghanistan is a rare and highly prized variety of this gemstone.
Kunzite was first discovered in the early 20th century and is named after the renowned mineralogist and gemologist, George Frederick Kunz. It is found in a number of locations around the world, including Afghanistan, Brazil, Madagascar, and the United States.
The doubly-terminated Kunzite crystals from Afghanistan are particularly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts due to their unique shape and beauty. These crystals feature pointed terminations at both ends, giving them a distinctive appearance that sets them apart from other Kunzite specimens.
In addition to its aesthetic qualities, Kunzite is believed to have a number of healing properties. It is said to promote feelings of love, compassion, and empathy, and is often used in meditation and other spiritual practices to help open the heart chakra.
When selecting a doubly-terminated Kunzite from Afghanistan, it's important to consider the quality of the crystal, including its color, clarity, and overall appearance. Higher quality specimens will have a rich, even color, with good transparency and few inclusions or blemishes.
This gemstone can be used in a variety of ways, including as a decorative object, as a component of jewelry, or as a tool for meditation and alternative healing practices. It is a popular choice for those interested in crystal healing and spirituality, as well as collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate the beauty and rarity of this unique variety of Kunzite.
